Travelling Rings

Chris Filkins is a leading innovator in that rare and uniquely Southern California athletic activity called the travelling rings. Inspiring a whole school of swingers, Chris has brought grace and high flying power to the rings. Through his passion and creativity Chris has fomented a new type of swing based on multi-person aerial choreography he calls ‘Clockwork’.

Thousands of people around the world know Chris as the go to guy for all things rings. Pictures of him in the air regularly appear in newspapers, magazines, and television throughout the world. He has been interviewed by television personalities in countries such as Korea, Japan, China, Canada, and many others. His story has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, the Oprah Winfrey Network & The Travel Channel. His skills have been seen in tv and movies such as 90210 & The Pick of Destiny. He has consulted with circus luminaries such a the Franco Dragone Company and ReCircle. He regularly gets asked to lend his expertise to people and projects all over the world. When the Sultan of Brunei seeks advice about setting up the rings – he calls Chris.

Chris established RingFlyers in 2006 to serve as the conduit to unite swingers all over the world. Through his efforts guiding this community space the swinging community has grown and the number of traveling rings rigs in the world continues to grow as well. Chris leads a theme camp at Burning Man which actually builds a traveling rings rig on the playa and shares it with visitors from all over the world.

Chris’ goals include bringing the traveling rings into theaters with developed choreography, further exploration of the possibilities behind tandem and partner work on the rings, and the design and choreography of the traveling rings sequence from Kung Fu Panda.
