Soft Foot Florida – Weekend Intensive with Duo Ruco.
Learn to flow like butteh. To fly with smoothness and badassery, to base with the power that comes from soft and artful footwork.
When Emily and Chris founded the Soft Foot Acro Intensive series in Oakland, CA in the winter of 2015 it sparked a series of collaborations that’s taken off across the country through classes, workshops, & festivals. The first intensive sparked two additional, consecutive Soft Foot 2.0 and 3.0 intensives in the Bay area. Now refined and upgraded, we are delighted to export the excellence and bring Soft Foot to you!
The Soft Foot Movement was born once upon a time when a wee flyer named Emily thought that painful acro was all part of the fun. It was the price to be paid for the joy of inversion and getting high in the air. But there was another way!! Chris brought her to the light and in this teaching partnership, Emily & Chris aim to bring comfortable, joyous, nearly worshipful play to the masses.
Since then, this partnership has built and shared teachings at numerous weekly classes, workshops, and events including the AcroLove Festival series, Ignite Fire Conference, Burning Man, and more.
Chris @filchyboy leads Westside Acro, the longest running acro series in Southern California. Chris comes from an extensive background in gymnastics, ballet, calisthenics, & circus arts. His 40+ years of movement practice & teachings are sought after worldwide. His efforts at promoting safety & consent in partner modalities are known worldwide and his students have gone on to become some of the leading teachers in the practice.
Emily @emplays teaches acro classes and workshops at Aerial Artique, Athletic Playground, and other studios across the Bay Area. Originating from the Philly scene, Emily pulls from her breakdance, fusion partner dance, Mysore yoga, flow movement, standing and L-basing acro practices. Emily cares much more about refined technique and effortlessness of execution than fancy tricks. Better a delicate transition done beautifully than a flashy trick done boring.
While Emily loves teaching solo both as a base and a flyer, she loves the spark of creativity and fun that arises from playing with a base so deeply skilled and grounded in proven technique as Chris.
Is this circus training? Probably not, that’s what circus schools are for.
Will you be challenged and learn a lot? YES. If not, you weren’t paying attention.
